How long will it take to train as a locksmith?
While your training usually takes around five or so days via MPL Locksmith Training, your journey into being a better locksmith has only just begun. We find that most locksmiths take around 12 months to build up the full range of skills they require to feel 100% confident in the work that they do.
The best way to build up your skills quickly is to take our locksmith training course for beginners. We offer a five-day course that gets you started, but you need to be willing to work and expand your skills further in the future.
I am new to locksmithing, do I need any qualifications to train as a locksmith?
Whilst you don’t need any qualifications to train, you need a desire and a commitment to learn. It always helps if you come from a manual job or background and that you’re used to working with the tools you’ll need.
What course should I take if I'm a complete beginner to locksmithing?
If you are new to the concept of locksmithing entirely, or you lack practical and manual working history, we recommend you take our 5-Day Specialist Course. This course is NCFE certificated and City & Guilds accredited, meaning it acts as a genuine professional foundation that gets your foot firmly in the door of the trade.
How much does locksmith training cost?

Are your accreditations recognised?
We are the UK’s ONLY provider of officially accredited City & Guilds and NCFE certified locksmith courses. Our accreditations recognise the high standards, process and delivery of bespoke training programmes which no other provider in the UK can offer.
In addition, we also run a range of courses which upon completion students receive our MPL certificate, which because we are the largest training provider in the UK is recognised throughout the industry as the gold standard.
Do I have to be a member of any trade organisations?
There is no governing body for locksmiths in the United Kingdom at the time of writing, so there is no obligation to join any organisations. Many organisations exist, but they are private companies that charge for membership. They offer very little in practical terms, and are not a requirement in order to become a locksmith.
